We had a really fantastic time at our first Spring Book Weekend in Wigtown. We were absolutely delighted with the audiences who came along to see the authors and illustrators at our four events. Silly songstress Renita Boyle gave a preview of her new book Honk Honk Rattle Rattle with illustrator Mike Abel showing visitors some of the fabulous illustrations he’s working on. The book is due out in September this year.
Frank English who has written two book series for readers age seven plus travelled all the way from Lancashire to talk about reading and to inspire young writers. We also had storyteller Rolf Buwert to share the secrets of the haggis in an entertaining event that included a demonstration of his haggis hunting horn. His book The Haggis A Shorty History was illustrated by Curly Tale Books’ Shalla Gray.
We gave a preview of our new book Big Bill and the Larking Lambs as a grande finale to the weekend and we were overwhelmed with the numbers of lovely families who came along. We had great fun reading the story and playing a couple of games including building a wall with a lunkie hole in it to crawl through – it’s part of the new book! All will be revealed in June!
