We can’t believe it’s three years since we took over the children’s bookshop in Wigtown! We’re pictured here with the very wonderful Fiona Murphy who had owned The Box of Frogs bookshop for fifteen years and been an important part of the growth of Scotland’s National Book Town. She was a very hard act to follow but we’ve done our best and changed the shop quite a bit, tipping the balance back towards children’s books rather than gifts and toys – though we do stock a small range. It was important to us that the shop was child friendly and we brought the play area through from the back room to the very front of the shop, hopefully creating a welcoming space. We now have a reputation for having an excellent range of new books from cloth books for babies through to young adult titles. We have signed copies and an area known as Shalla’s Shelves for more unusual picture books. Recently we’ve introduced a chalkboard wall for anyone to have a go at creating a picture or leaving us a message. We’re very proud to be a part of Scotland’s National Book Town.
Take a look at our facebook page for a range of competitions this week to celebrate our third birthday. We’ve got fabulous signed picture books to give away and other prizes. So here’s looking forward to the next three years!
